A BLOC Superprestige Bicycle Beer

Beer. Bikes. Beer designed specifically to be drunk after riding bikes. Do I have your full attention? Thought so!

Crowdfunding has gifted cyclists with some exceptional products over the last few years. The latest thing we’re interested in is a BLOC beer. A heady brew designed by cyclists, for cyclists, specifically to be drunk at the end of the ride. Now, we have made the decision to limit reporting on bike related crowd funding because it’s the Wild West out there. But we spent a rainy November weekend riding with the creators of a BLOC, then we got to taste it! So this is basically a review… sort of…

DUTCH BUTTS

The first Saturday of our weekend following along with the King's Men annual Ride Different charity ride was a windy, undulating, 200 km roll from Hobart to Port Arthur. I spent a chunk of that ride staring at two Dutchmens' butts sporting the a BLOC beer logo. Beer eh? Not long after our arrival to Port Arthur, some wondrous, magical boxes appeared that were resplendent in that very same logo. At least two-dozen sets of thirsty eyes followed those cartons intently.

THE BEER

So what are the tech specs? Well it’s an unfiltered, unpasteurized natural blond craft beer at 4,9% vol. It’s got “Alpine Minerals” in it that help after a ride. As far as we know, it’s compatible with all electronic and mechanical groupsets, all bottom bracket standards, Ant+ and Bluetooth protocols, MTB and road cleats, is touch enabled, and each bottle is well below the 6.8 kg limit. It’s a technical marvel.

THE STORY

As bottles were eagerly popped open in that Port Arthur hotel, Daan and Martijn explained that this was not just a beer with a bicycle slapped onto the label. This beverage was the result of stringent product development, rigorous testing, and highly scientific research.

We managed to get some insight into that process. It went like this: ride bikes > drink beer > guage efficacy > repeat until the best brew was found. Best product development ever. Seriously though, there is a bit more to it than that but we aren’t brewers so we don’t understand it.

Outside of the product, a BLOC has a deep philosophical goal to enhance the riding experience. They want it to be part of the post-ride ritual. Cyclists can chat, recover, and re-hydrate over a beer. Something tells me cyclists will have no trouble integrating beer into their recovery.

CROWDFUNDING

So, you want to drink the cycling beer, right? Of course you do. Do you want to invest in it? Well you can.

A crowd funding campaign has just opened to raise capital. Now, we're mates with the chaps behind the brew but we're not affiliated beyond that so it's best if you head on over and read the material for yourself. We will say though that the beer is tasty as hell after a long day in the saddle. That's the only information I have for you. I'm not a financial adviser, I ride bikes and put words on the internet. My financial plan is to make sure revenue slightly exceeds bike expenditure.
