Garmin Edge 1000

Quick Look

Garmin's new Edge 1000 packs some serious power.  If you are into data, technology, maps, competitions, smartphone connectivity and more this is worth having a look at.

With the Edge 1000 Garmin has tried to take the best from the Edge 810 and added more.  The features that look great include the large 3-inch high-resolution colour touch screen, training aids, the ability to connect via your smartphone and connectivity with Shimano's Di2, enabling you to see what gear you are in.

Garmin has made a play to tempt riders away from Strava by creating the ability to see Garmin Connect segments on the screen of the unit while you are riding.

Amongst other things, for $699 you get a unit is 5.8cm wide, 11.2cm tall and 2.0cm thick and weighs in at 114.5g.  The battery will give you approximately 15 hours and it will resist rain and weather.  Add a heart rate monitor for another $100.

Other features include:

  • On-road or off-road navigation and points of interest with preloaded Garmin Cycle Map
  • Input a distance and choose from up to 3 round-trip ride options
  • Instant uploads to Garmin Connect™ Mobile to analyze and share
  • Connected features: incoming call and text alerts, live tracking, sending/receiving courses, social media sharing, weather
