The Weekly Rider - Kate Penglase

Kate Penglase is the Weekly Rider!  Kate is busy preparing for the 2015 World 24 Hour Solo Mountain Bike Championships in California, a seriously tough event.

When Kate is not hitting the You Yangs or clocking up the hours out on the mountain bike, she can be found powering around Melbourne's Dandenong ranges with her crew from World Vision.

Name – Kate Penglase

Lives – Glen Iris, Victoria

Dream bike – S-Works Era 29.  I’ve got one on order through Warren Cay and the boys at Bike Now, arriving mid-Feb so I’ll be living the dream in a couple of months……. that’s not to say I’m not already...

When I am on the bike... I’m in my element. It’s an addiction.

Favourite local ride – I love ripping around on the dirt and rocks at You Yangs.  It doesn’t get any better than that on a warm Summer evening.

My current cycling goal is...  2015 World 24 Hour Solo Mountain Bike Championships in California.

When I am on the bike... I’m in my element.  It’s an addiction. Once I’ve had my morning fix with the World Vision and MYOB riding crew in the hills, tearing down the 1/20 or down from Sky High to Montrose, I feel like my world is balanced and I’m set for the work day.

How did your love for bikes come about – I’m an adrenalin-junkie at heart, and after a close friend of mine introduced me to mountain biking a few years ago, there was no turning back.

Share a cycling memory – Looking at the spectacular sunrise over Canberra from Mt Stromlo at this year’s Scott 24hr.  Despite the pain after 18 hours of riding, I was still able to appreciate its beauty and enjoy the moment.

People have since said to me that you don’t need to ride your bike for 18 hours to experience that.  True, but I think it makes you appreciate it more.

I love to ride because – It helps my mind to get perspective on things, not to forget the amazing people and experiences I’ve had on the way.
