Cycling in Bright... with family.

If you're anything like me you're trying to balance riding your bike with a family and work... So it's not usually an option to announce that you're heading off for a weekend of cycling with a 'see you on Sunday night' as you wave from the door.

I recently hit the road with the family and bike for a weekend in Bright and discovered that it's a place that has something for everyone.

To join or not to join... that is the question

To join or not to join... that is the question. At any club you’ll be meeting men and women from all different walks of life, but despite their unusual appearance in tight clothing and clip-clop shoes they probably have more in common than you would think.

From Aspiring to Athlete; the path less publicised. How to turn a hobby into a profession.

‘I’m a cyclist’. Keen cyclist, athlete, aspiring athlete, professional athlete, recreational rider, weekend warrior.

All terms we have heard before. If someone was to ask you what type of rider you are, what would you say? When someone asks you what you do for a living, what do you say?

Shave your legs.

For ages I resisted, I refused to shave my legs. I would actively make fun of any of my friends who did do it, I just thought it was dumb.

Then over time, that opinion softened somewhat, then a lot, and now I have silky smooth legs all of the time.

Hell I shaved in the shower earlier today so I would have smooth legs on my non-cycling related work conference in the tropics.

Gravel Grinding.

We all experience a different sense of pleasure that riding brings.  Some ride for the thrill of speed, others need a hill or two to make their ride interesting.

Today we are talking about the adventure rider.  The riders that get back to nature and couldn’t care less whether the road is hilly or flat.  They are in it for the dirt. They are the Gravel Grinders.

Climb Better

Most climbers are familiar with the pain cave.  That place you go when things are getting really tough. It’s quiet in there. It’s just you, your breathing, your front wheel and the road one metre in front of your wheel. Your legs hurt. Your back hurts, your shoulders and neck hurt.

Cold Hands.

We’re talking Gloves. There’s no denying that it’s getting cold in the Southern Hemisphere and as we quickly head towards freezing temperatures, there’s an issue that I find so many cyclists battle with. Cold hands.

The Art of Climbing

There is something about climbing in the hills. It’s relaxing, exhilarating, calming and challenging all at the same time.

Hills are the perfect escape from everyday life, you can forget about what happened last week, not worry about what’s going on next week, you can simply get in your own head space and just climb.

La Velocita's Sarah Grove explains how improve your climbing.
