The Benevolent Society’s Race for Change 2016
Race for Change is a fast, competitive team challenge. With team work and strategy, you can be sure your experience will be nail-biting, exhilarating and fun.
The 200 kilometre cycling race is broken up into 40 laps of the 5km closed circuit and shared between you and your four team mates.
ABOUT
Race for change is a long distance team ride. It's a bit different from what we've seen other events do. you'll cover part of the 200km relaying with your four team mates... all on a 5km closed circuit, making for great strategy and awesome viewing for spectators.
The race is being held at one of Sydney’s iconic Olympic venues; the Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith, about one hour’s drive from Sydney’s central business district.
Get your mates together, support a local cause and work out your plan!
THE CAUSE
Funds raised through Race for Change 2016 support the Benevolent Society’s high impact and life changing youth services like The Shack in Maroubra and CKAN Do in Claymore.
These programs are designed to support children between the ages of 8 – 17 in their latter primary school years and teens right through high school in some of Sydney’s most disadvantaged suburbs.
These ages, receive relatively little attention from policymakers, yet issues such as high pressure at school, hunger and missing school are prevalent.
A report launched in Canberra on 25 February by the Australian Child Wellbeing Project states the following:
- “One in 10 Australian children miss school at least once a week, almost one in six have been bullied, and one in 30 – a child in almost every classroom – goes to bed or school hungry nearly every day.”
- “The Australian Child Wellbeing Project shows that for many children in Australia today, life is pretty tough,” Professor Redmond said.
The Shack and CKAN Do are running life changing programs to help these children build the right frameworks in their lives to better manage the challenges they face growing up.
But we can’t do it without you. We’re asking you to help break the cycle of disadvantage by keeping these programs running. Through cycling and fundraising in Race for Change, you can help more children change their lives!
