ABOUT

Spin Cycle Clothing has set out to develop a range of cycling apparel that is high quality and suited to riding and racing. We like that they are looking to constantly improve their offering, bringing better kit with each season.

Today we bring you Spin Cycle’s season 3 ‘Feather Light’ kit. The kit continues with Spin Cycles goals and makes clear advances over their previous offerings. It’s a quality offering, definitely race orientated and uses some of the best-known names to source materials, including MITI SPA and Elastic Interface.

What stands out instantly is the offering of a long sleeve option in a summer weight fabric. The guys at Spin Cycle tell us that the additional coverage does not result in overheating and provides excellent sun protection, critical in the Australian summer.

STYLE

We love the dark blue of the Feather Light kit. While people have different taste, we like the feathered pattern and logos on the jersey. The patterns are nicely detailed in white and look great for a far or up close.

The only small change we’d make is removing the white background from the logo’s on the front of each leg to tie with the rest of the kit logos.

QUALITY

Out of the bag the Feather Light kit feels high quality. The materials are firm and overall the kit is well put together. The cut is definitely race on this one. We were happy with a medium, but probably could have gone to a small and achieved a really nice aero result.

We tested both the long and ‘half’ sleeve lengths. The half-length is exactly that, much longer than the regular sleeve length and nicely finished. It’s a move that we like and is super comfortable.

The long sleeve version is identical, except for the obvious long sleeves. It’s a great play from Spin Cycle and we really like that they are giving people the option.

Both of the Feather Light jerseys really are feather light. The use of lighter fabric across the back helps keep you cool, and they have gone for a underarm mesh to provide excellent ventilation.

To finish they guys have gone with fantastic pockets, they are a large and can hold as little or as much as you like. There’s some nice reflective detailing, a quality full length zipper and the waist is held in place with a gripper.

The Feather Light knicks feel a little heavier in construction than the jerseys, not a bad thing and hopefully a good sign from a longevity perspective. The leg gripper is a massive at 8cm and we loved it.  The chamois is by elastic interface an what we would describe as a medium weight. The bibs section is really nice, again well finished and designed with thought.

RIDE

The quality is there but does it all come together on the bike? In short yes. This kit works.

Starting with the jersey, they both do a great job and keeping you cool, long and short sleeve. The jerseys feel great on and moves well with you. Again I think we could have gone down a size to a small for a more race fit in the jersey. Being a medium in pretty much every other kit for a fitted look sizing is something to consider carefully.

The guys at Spin Cycle have done a great job with the cut, and while we all have different body shapes, we found the Feather Light was right up there on the comfort scale.

As we mentioned above, the half sleeves really are comfortable. Going back to normal sleeve length felt a bit odd after the experience of the half. The only very minor gripe was with the larger pockets, while they are fantastic, don’t get too tempted to load them up with too much as the will start to pull.

The Knicks are really great. The chamois is well positioned, the grippers are excellent and we did not experience any rubbing from seams. The bib section just did not move… exactly what you want.

Overall comfort is excellent, feel is good, they guys have used quality materials that should last well and we think you’ll look great.
