ABOUT

Brad and Glenn are brothers that share a passion for cycling. Together they run VeloOne. Chatting with the guys it’s clear that they want to produce a range of apparel that people will love. They see their offering as an extension of themselves and are keen to do what it takes to get it right.

VeloOne has made a name for themselves by producing a range of cycling inspired t-shirts and beautifully made socks that are equally happy on or off the bike. They have now released their Season 2 Senza Limiti kit. They’ve put thought and effort into this one, Italian made, quality fabrics and elegant design are a good start in an ever more crowded market.

STYLE

VeloOne has opted for an understated design that links in nicely with their current sock designs. There’s men’s and women’s specific cuts and designs with black bibs and a choice of black or white jerseys and gilets. Men’s detailing is in a turquoise and the women’s is in pink.

In a time where there are range of highly patterned kit’s floating around the Senza is clean, classic and fresh. Branding is there but not in your face.

We like that they guys have gone for a single black bib that can then be warn with any combination of black or white jersey or gilet. We tried all combinations and eventually opted for the white jersey and black gilet.

QUALITY

VeloOne have focused on quality with the Senza, we’d describe the choice of fabric as mid-weight.

The Jersey fabrics feel high quality and on close inspection it is well put together. Good stitching all round and nicely finished.  We really loved the wide lycra arm cuffs, super comfortable and a big tick. The zipper feels high quality although it does have a tendency to make the jersey bunch a little, this will most likely settle after a couple of washes.

All the details we expect from a quality jersey are there, breathable side panels, shoulders and arms, silicon elastic waist gripper, three good sized rear pockets plus waterproof zipped pocket and reflective piping.

The textured fabric used on the knicks is fantastic, it feels great and provides good compression and structure. The chamois is by Marathon and is mid to thicker in weight. A couple of washes in it has softened nicely and provides a comfortable platform to ride on. There’s flatlock stitching and wide, comfortable bib section.

The gilet is another quality item, again it's a heavier weight, constucted using wind proof and water resistant fabrics... we are sure is will protect on cool mornings. It's small enough to roll and fit in a the jersey pocket. It's packed with features, three back pockets plus zipped pocket, reflective piping, full length quality zipper and silicone waist gripper.

It’s a kit that looks like it will hold together really well and survive multiple trips through the wash. We’ve gone for the white jersey, we’ll report back in to see how white we can make it stay.

RIDE

On the bike the kit feels comfortable. It’s a race cut and typically Italian when it comes to sizing. In just about every kit I own I am a size medium, but it was a tough call in the Senza in choosing between medium and large. I ended up going with large Knicks to get a longer leg length and a squeeze into a medium jersey.

The chamois performed well, it’s definitely one that is designed to deal with long days on the bike. While we are on the knicks, the levels of compression are good, again targeted at long days, so not restrictive but firm. The material and cut comes together with the quality bib section to form a very comfortable set of knicks.

Our main suggested improvement would be wider leg ends, they are just a bit narrow and we found they moved around a bit on the bike.

The jersey also performed strongly, the white option that we chose looked good out on the road and provided good visibility in the mornings. Being a definite race cut the jersey came into its own when on the drops. The comfort was good, however being a slightly heavier fabric it did not move with you quite as well as some of the lighter offerings.

The neck size is spot on and loading up the pockets did not result in pulling, with the jersey retained its structure really well. The arm ends/cuffs on the jersey are a real highlight, very comfortable and hold perfectly in place.

Strangely for Melbourne we have not had to use the gilet just yet.... but wearing it for a quick spin it's nicely cut and feels comfortable. There's no doubt that it will offer protection at the upper end of the spectrum increasing the temperature range you can run your Senza kit in. The black or white clean design also means that the this gilet will work in with your other kits nicely.

Overall this is a solid kit, it’s particularly well suited to cool to warm conditions over hot but an excellent all rounder that’s been well thought out and will stay looking good for as long as it lasts… and given the construction we think that will be quite some time.
