When you ask someone what their first ever bike race was and they answer 'The Transcontinental' you know things are about to get serious! Step (or pedal) forward Kristof Allegaert.
He's a teacher that covered 40,000km on his bike last year (that's almost 800km a week on average). What drives those k's? Adventure...
He went to Paris on his bike to pick up some sweets... a lazy 500km each way... in one day. Rode his bike home from the summit of Mont Ventoux in 36 hours (960km) visited 4 capitals in 3 days on 2 wheels (check it out at #4capitals3days2wheels), the #yetiride in search of snow, between Christmas andNew Year riding all the ski slopes in Belgium (520km in winter) and to 'top' it off visited the 100 highest points in Belgium #centcol... not bad.
And with as the below list of achievements he's pretty handy when it comes to covering some serious kilometers very quickly:
- 3x Transcontinental Race
- 1x Red Bull Trans-Siberian Race
- 1x Indian Pacific Wheel Race
- Double Everesting
Kristof Allegaert - Belgium
A titatinium frame with a nice geometry, wheels with low rims, disc brakes and good feeling handle bar with a bigger diameter and a Campagnolo mechanical Record groupset...
...Just a bike that you can trust under all different conditions every day of the year and where you can work on by yourself.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE LOCAL RIDE?
On a weekday at sunrise cycling around in the Flemisch hills and looking around how things come alive. Going up and down and some good sharp edge turning to have fun and practise your skills... and understand those short steep climbs like Patersberg / Koppenberg / Kwaremont .....
WHAT IS YOU CURRENT CYCLING GOAL?
Having fun on my bike with some friends to share the road. I just want to move every mile I ride without having the feeling of pressure even that nice good looking turn can instantly make my day, pretty sure straight away.
WHEN I AM ON THE BIKE I...
...feel free and it's the perfect moment to reflect all the things in life or that day. My best decisions in life are always made on my bike.
HOW DID YOUR LOVE OF BIKES COME ABOUT?
A bicycle is always a part in my life, this feels so natural for me that I never think about this or that because it's there.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST BIKE RACE?
The Transcontinental race was my first bike race ever.
I LOVE TO RIDE BECAUSE...
I forget everything and it's the perfect way to blow away my stress or problems
