Cycle Closet

Adelaide’s Cycle Closet is a hot contender for Australia’s coolest apparel store. To celebrate its approaching first birthday, we wanted to profile the fledgling store and show you why we’ve chosen them as our kit partner.

Aussie, Swedish, and Italian kit all on the same rack. Glorious.

Aussie, Swedish, and Italian kit all on the same rack. Glorious.

The internet has heralded a glorious golden age for cycling kit. Sweet kits from America, Slovakia, Japan, Sweden, and around Australia are a few clicks away. But there can be a lot of faff with sizing, returns, and international postage. Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone in Australia brought together all that sweet kit? Thankfully, someone did.

CYCLE CLOSET

Cycle Closet owner Julian Carne was once an online shopper, but: “after a few bad experiences with apparel not fitting and then paying money to send it back or it just being forgotten. I decided to go local.”

Cycle Closet's sock game is strong.

It wasn’t a simple matter of walking into any bike shop though. Adelaide is spoilt with a stack of great bike shops but their kit choice can be limited.

“I was really surprised by the lack of choice for me and women’s kit for my daughter who was doing triathlons. Hence the thought, ‘what if we opened a shop dedicated to cycle kit for all cyclists?’ Would it work? Would we get support?”

Thankfully for us, Julian did more than think about it.

Shop 2/122 Pirie St, Adelaide is where cycling enthusiasts can go and be overwhelmed by choice in cycling kit. Australia is well represented by Spin Cycle, VeloOne, Jaggad, Lumiere, Biketivist, and A’qto. There’s plenty of international offerings too, including POC, LUMO, Ridge Supply, Isadore, Fox, Castelli, Pearl Izumi, and many more. Accessories are plentiful too, from handmade Buck!t Belt's wares, to tyres, pumps, helmets, and sunglasses.

Interstate and overseas buyers are catered for too, with an online store with all their gear and fast postage around Australia.

THE TEAM

Cycle Closet’s team is store manager Mitch and 2IC Lana (who moonlights as our photographer) are both cycling obsessives. From there it’s a family affair. You’ll often catch Julian in there on weekends, or his daughters Frances and Hannah. Julian’s wife Barbara helps to manage accounts and administration, and son-in-law Scott gets well into the kit testing side.

OUR KIT PARTNER

We’ve made Cycle Closet our kit partner to give us access to some of the world’s coolest kit. The same thing that makes them great for you is the same thing that makes them great for us: access to an awesome range of kit all in one Australian location. We will be able to bring you more quality kit reviews than ever before. The only difference you’ll see is a link to Cycle Closet’s website when we review something they stock.

But hey, no need to wait for reviews, head over the Cycle Closet’s website and check it out!
