The Weekly Rider - Ryan Lonsdale

Ryan Lonsdale is the Weekly Rider at La Velocita.  Ryan works at Bicycle Network NSW, looking out for all our cycling interests.  He's currently training for the awesome Peaks Challenge Falls Creek, where he's got the unenviable task of riding as the lanterne rouge, making sure everyone gets home safely. He faces a long day in the saddle!

Name - Ryan Lonsdale

Lives - Northern Beaches of Sydney

Dream bike - I'm actually really happy with my current ride, a Scott Foil. Naturally, there will be upgrades to it but for now it's perfect.

Favourite local ride - Leaving from the Northern Beaches you head up to Church Point, McCarrs Creek then around Akuna Bay. The ride continues on through to the Gorges (Galston, Berowra Waters and Bobbin Head) if I’m feeling inspired. There are always thousands of cyclists out on the road and the changing landscape is incredible, from the beach, to the classic climbs in the National Park.

My current cycling goal is... Three Peaks Challenge Falls Creek Victoria in March 2015, I really can't wait, but there are plenty of ks that need to be done before hand!

When I am on the bike... it makes me feel like being a kid again. The boundaries are endless, every adventure is different and you can share it with anyone.

How did your love for cycling come about - I always rode as a kid, but after finishing school I became addicted to the Tour de France highlights on SBS. Right at that time I was looking for something different and cycling just seemed to be the perfect fit. So I bought a mountain bike, that soon became a roadie - the rest is history.

Share a cycling memory - Shortly after I started riding, Dad and I decided to ride to the three Sisters in Katoomba from Sydney, just because it seemed like a good idea. Looking back, we hardly knew anything about riding, eating properly and how to climb. We got there eventually but it was incredible how many games the body and mind played along the way. The adventure was a huge learning curve and something Dad and I will always remember.

I love to ride because... you can go almost anywhere on a bike. It’s the easiest and most enjoyable way to get around, it keeps you fit while providing clarity in your mind. Riding a bike is just so simple!!
