2016 Shimano Super Crit

The Shimano Super Crit is back this weekend at St Kilda Cycling Club's crit circuit in Port Melbourne. If you've never been to a race you should go. If you're not a racer you should go... even if you don't ride a bike you should still go.

This is a must see event, the Super Crit takes everything to the next level and is as much a spectacle to behold as it is a bike race.

Ballarat - Cycling holiday with the kids... is it possible?

So Ballarat is not on the top of the list when it comes to many people's 'must' travel destinations... but I'm here to persuade you that as a cyclist, it should be.

A couple of weeks ago, I packed up the car with two bikes, my wife and two young kids to try and achieve the holy grail, a cycling weekend away... with family in tow. Is it possible?

Cycling Australia Road Nationals Gran Fondo Ballarat

The Cycling Australia Road Nationals event is quickly becoming a must on any self respecting cyclist's calendar. Standing on the side of Mount Buninyong Road during the road race you get pretty close to the experience of standing on the side of a climb in the Tour de France... to make it even better though, the riders keep coming around and around.

And even better than that you can take the opportunity to ride the Gran Fondo on closed roads and experience what it's like for yourself... combine this with five days of cracking racing and riding and you're getting pretty close to a dream cycling adventure.

Audax Alpine Classic

Riding in the Victorian High Country does not get much better than this. In it's 30th year, last weekend's ride was another cracker, perfect conditions, awesome riding and smiles all round. We were there to get a piece of the action.

Ol’ Dirty 2016

Since it first kicked off in 2010, the ride as Ol’ Dirty has involved all the things we love most about riding at La Velocita: challenging yourself, exploring new roads, spending quality time with mates, and a detailed knowledge of the history of rap music.

Rapha Prestige Brisbane.

Every year Melbournians say the same thing. This year is the coldest and wettest winter they have known, this year has been no exception. So I thought I would take the opportunity to head north to Brisbane for a few days, explore some new roads and ride the Rapha Prestige ride.

Dirty Deeds CX - Victorian State CX Round Four

It’s hard to discuss the explosion in popularity of the sport of cyclocross in Melbourne (and even in Australia) without talking about the role of the Dirty Deeds series organised by the Brunswick Cycling Club.

Melburn Roobaix Preview

The Melburn Roobaix has been an iconic event on the cycling calendar since its inception in 2006.  It is hosted by FYXO who have embraced the spirit of one of Europe’s most popular one day bike races, the Paris-Roubaix which is renown for its challenging cobblestone sections.

RideWest: To Ride with Meaning

Last week I again had the privilege to ride from Brisbane to Longreach as part of RideWest, a Charity Bike Ride which raises money for the Royal Flying Doctors and the mental health programs that they run in the bush.

Team Brevet - Oppy 24 2016

Too often we avoid a challenge because it is too difficult. In a busy world I often hear people saying, ‘I don’t have the time’.

So, take inspiration from Team Brevet. Five ‘ordinary’ people, busy with family and jobs, who together achieved something truly extraordinary; a new Audax Fleche Opperman 24 Hour team time trial record of 800km.

L’Eroica - Honouring Cycling's History

Strade Bianche has come and gone, epic landscapes, hard racing and of course dirt and gravel. Cancellara made it three in another amazing display of talent.

Following from this event, I spoke with Damian Hancock from A’qto Cycling about his experience riding many of the same roads while riding L’Eroica.

Domestique Baw Baw

The Domestique Baw Baw ride was held on Saturday 13th February in near perfect conditions and attracted record crowds.  It is easily one of Victorias most popular cycling events and attracts riders of all abilities.

Domestique challenges you to step outside of your comfort zone and to inspire riders to go and travel and explore, and to test your limits.

Boxing Day Everest

At La Velocita we love a good Everesting story. So when we heard there was a group of five riders taking on the challenge on Boxing day… when most of us are relaxing… we sent our resident Everesting expert Brendan Edwards along to check it out.

Christmas Hills

Time flies and Christmas is here! Here at La Velocita, we love Christmas and it may sound a little cliché but what better way to celebrate than to get out and ride Christmas Hills just before Christmas.

Drew Ginn - 24 Hour Solo Record Attempt

24 hours. Brunswick Velodrome. One man and his bike. A distance target that most of us would never even contemplate. 900km… almost endless laps through day and night. This is the story of how it unfolded.

Giro della Donna Gran Fondo

Warburton, Sunday November 22nd 7:30am, perfect conditions for the inaugural Giro della Donna Gran Fondo. I was really looking forward to what promised to be one of the most spectacular cycling routes in Australia.

Climbing Canberra - Fitz's

We ventured to Australia’s capital to ride ‘Fitz’s Challenge’. The roads are good. The climbs are unrelenting and tough.

The scenery is a photographer’s paradise. 254km and 5,000m of climbing. It’s going to be a long day.

Domestique - Lake Mountain

Hells 500 and the Climbing Cyclist are back with their ‘Domestique’ Rides. Today we take a look at the first ride of the summer, the awesome Lake Mountain. It’s the perfect environment to get out in the mountains and test yourself in a friendly, safe and supportive environment.

This isn’t a race. It’s an experience.
