Pedla Season 4

As winter draws in the guys at Pedla have sent us some of their latest kit to look at. The latest version of their Full Gas Aero Jersey, Sleeve Skins and Wind Cheater Gilet.

About

Pedla have been producing kit for 2 years now, and are continuing to gain traction in the cycling community by producing high quality kit in a great range of designs. When we met with Pedla’s Marcin Wojcik it was clear that Pedla are passionate about what they do. They have a clear focus on producing a premium product, that in turn enhances their customers cycling experience.

Quality

As with other Pedla kit we’ve looked at, quality is up with the best. Our Long Haul knicks are still looking great and performing strongly after over 6 months of solid use.  Looking at the selection of products that have arrived at La Velocita we’d expect that the same will be true this time around. Stitching is all very tidy, materials are the real deal and design is well considered.

Ride

Wind Cheater Gilet

Like most gilets, Pedla’s Wind Cheater is designed to keep the core of your body warm and dry. Cool starts can become freezing when you add in wind chill on the bike.

The Wind Cheater Gilet is made using the WINDTEX windproof membrane on the front and side panels. The rear is a different fabric, designed to be quick-drying, breathable, wick moisture and be odor and bacteria resistant.

So does it all work? The Wind Cheater does the job and really does block the harsh wind. Even when working hard on the bike the gilet stopped that feeling of the wind going right through you.

One thing I really liked was that I did not overheat in the gilet.  I wore it with a marino base layer, the Pedla Full Gas Aero / Core Jersey and arm warmers during races that offered up freezing starts and quickly turned into leg busting efforts and I never felt like my core was boiling, and while I had a good sweat going there was not an excessive build up with the gilet letting it out the back.

The Wind Cheater Gilet is finished with a silicone waist band that keeps it in place, a cut that avoids a flap, flap, flap around the shoulders, a solid zip that runs well and three good sized back pockets.

Full Gas Aero / Core Jersey

The latest iteration of the Full Gas Aero jersey is not a winter jersey. We’d say it's a mid-layer for cold starts and paired up from a style and design perspective with Pedla’s latest season.

The Full Gas Aero Jersey is largely constructed from the same materials as the previous version. Saying this we really liked the previous version and this one still works brilliantly. The main argument at La Velocita was over the colour description, Pelda call it ‘orange’…. Maybe its more red, or bright red… anyway it looks great and in low light has high visability. The main thing is that this jersey will be useable right through to hot days on the bike so you'll get a lot of use out of it.

The main improvement over the last season is an extended sleeve length. While this is a small change it does make a difference to overall comfort and has the benefit of making sure there’s no risk of gaps emerging between your sleeve ends and arm warmers.

The Full Gas Aero Jersey is well finished, the pockets are a good size and well reinforced the silicone waist gripper works well and the zip does the job.  We’d like to see Pedla having a look at the neck sizing, we did find it that the it could potentially be a few millimeters larger to take the pressure off when fully zipped up.

Sleeve Skin Arm Warmer

Arm warmers are a must and have application far beyond winter only.

I’ll get straight to the point and say that these are fantastic and some of the best arm warmers I have used. They are nice and long (for my long arms) have a great silicone gripper at the top to hold them in place and are really warm but still wick moisture.

The arm warmers are constructed from a fleece back Italian Roubaix fabric that we just can’t fault. The level of stretch is perfect the stitching is great we love the design.

Overall

The combination that Pedla has sent us is suited to protecting you from cold but not freezing starts but does have a wide range temperature range. It’s another quality offering from the guys, using great fabrics and nice design.

If you are going to be heading out into some really brutal conditions we’d suggest checking out Pedla’s AquaDRY and Chill Block options.
