DIY Cranberry Sports Drink

There's loads of off the shelf sports drinks available, some are great... but after a recent ride I thought I'd try a DIY sports drink so I knew exactly what I was putting into my body.

After a recent ride left me feeling pretty dehydrated and out of electrolytes I went in search of a simple drink I could make with what we has in the fridge at home... I found this great receipe at 'Fit Bottomed Eats' and had to share.

It's actually pretty simple to make a good sports drink, most of you probably have most of the things you need at home already. Once you've made a few you'll notice there's a pattern to follow with the ingredients and you wont even need a recipe.

At a time where we're all becoming conscious and more aware of hidden ingredients in food we buy this drink is natural and should give you the carbohydrates and electrolytes (sodium and potassium) you need after a ride.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups unsweetened cranberry juice (100 percent juice)
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 star anise, optional

Directions

Easy - Mix together all the ingredients. If using star anise, leave to infuse for one hour then strain. Refrigerate.
