Peta Mullens is the La Velocita Weekly Rider! Supported by Bendigo Bank, Peta has her sights set on being the first Australian to qualify for the Olympic road and mountain bike race, Peta has got a big 18 months ahead!
La Velocita's Mike Boudrie talks to Peta about why she loves to ride!
Name: Peta Nicole Mullens - Nickname ‘Pesta’ or ‘Peta-Tweeter'
Lives: Bendigo, VIC but raised in Maffra, VIC - always a country girl!
Dream Bike: My YETI’s, and without playing favourites #mejullii
Favourite Local Ride: Our Saturday 7’s Bunch which is a road bunch, with two swap-off sections with the boys, it’s a hard one but a good one!
My current cycling goal is: To be the first Australian to qualify for the Rio Olympics for both the Road and MTB disciplines.
When I am on the bike I: feel free :)
How did your love of bikes come about: I’ve always been into sport, first running then triathlon and eventually cycling.
I started out on the track, then the road, and after ‘retiring’ from the sport in 2009, as the reigning U23 Champion, I met a boy and he introduced me to the sport of MTB’ing. I haven’t looked back and I couldn’t imagine my life without it!
Share a cycling memory: I have three favourites- Winning the 2015 Australian Road Race Championships, being a member of the 2014 Commonwealth Games MTB Team and finishing runner-up at the Absa Cape Epic MTB Race with my partner Jarrod Moroni.
I love to ride because… it means I can eat more!
